I have a work history of supporting clients with histories of complex mental health and substance misuse issues and have recently worked as a social worker in a community mental health team. I trained as a CBT therapist in 2012 and have a special interest in mindfulness and behavioural therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT). I am a member of the BACP and presently working towards professional accreditation. I often find it helpful to gently explore with clients what or who matters most to them as a starting point to planning work. One of the aims of ACT is to help clients move in the direction of what they most value even if this sometimes involves having to work with difficult thoughts and feelings. I would hope to support clients in gaining skills to do this.
